MTV is getting political. The network, which has long been an advocate of encouraging young voters, is now accepting political advertisements for the first time.

The Church of Scientology has a new way to reach the masses - via YouTube.

One of the biggest events this weekend for Oscar A-listers, aside from the awards ceremony itself, took place last night. The sixth annual Night Before Fundraiser raised $6 million for the Motion Picture & Television Fund.

Hosts included George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Matt Damon, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Reese Witherspoon.

An unauthorized biography of Tom Cruise, released today, has put the Church of Scientology back in the news.

Andrew Morton, who has made a name for himself writing biographies of Princess Diana, Madonna and Monica Lewinsky, spent two years researching on Cruise. He concluded that Cruise is the second-highest ranking person in the church.

Cruise’s rep has called Morton’s book a “false, vicious and bigoted attack.” In anticipation of Morton’s interview this morning on the Today show, the church issued a press release denying many of the book’s claims.

Matt Damon, People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2007, is in good company.

The magazine started the award in 1985, with Mel Gibson. Past winners include: Mark Harmon, Harry Hamlin, John F. Kennedy Jr., Sean Connery, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Nick Nolte, Richard Gere, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Harrison Ford, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Affleck, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Matthew McConaughey.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Beckham will be able to party as hard in California as he has in Europe. With endorsement deals with Adidas, PepsiCo and Gillette, the world’s richest soccer star made an estimated $33 million last year. His new contract could be worth as much as $250 million in salary and endorsements.

The Beckham home in Beverly Hills, dubbed Beckingham Palace West, is a $22-million, 13,000-square-foot mansion near friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
