Jack Sherman
After stints as a high school English teacher and elementary school art teacher, Jack Sherman became book review editor and illustrator at the Ithaca Journal. He also designed publications for Cornell's business school, law school, hotel school and alumni association. He moved to Long Island's Newsday in 1986 where he was in charge of illustration and designed pages primarily for the opinion and book sections.

On its northern bank, as it passes under North Aurora Street, sits a large, slate-roofed, circa-1913 house. In the 1970s it was Teen Challenge, a faith-based drug treatment center. Then, it passed into the hands of the Sherman family (including this writer), who sold it to an architect, who sold it, indirectly to the Dalai Lama.
