More advisers flee Trump

Another White House advisory group is losing members en masse.

A fourth of the appointees to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, which counsels the secretary of Homeland Security, have quit, citing “insufficient attention” by President Trump to cybersecurity threats, among other actions.

“You have given insufficient attention to the growing threats to the cybersecurity of the critical systems upon which all Americans depend, including those impacting the systems supporting our democratic election process,” the resignation letter stated.

Defense One reports that remaining council members met last week and approved a report warning that U.S. infrastructure is in “a pre-9/11 moment” in cyber vulnerability.

The resignations have been coming from several sectors:

  • The remaining members of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities resigned earlier this month, in protest of President Trump’s comments about the violence in Charlottesville, VA.
  • When business leaders left in droves for the same reason, Trump disbanded two business panels - the Manufacturing Jobs Initiative and the Strategic and Policy Forum.
