Sean Spicer quits

White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned Friday, after a disagreement with President Trump about the appointment of Anthony Scaramucci as new communications director.

The New York Times reports that Trump asked Spicer to stay, but Spicer left because he thought naming Scaramucci was a mistake.

Rumors of Spicer’s pending departure have swirled for months, as Trump has been publicly critical of his communications staff.

Politico notes that chief of staff Reince Priebus and strategist Steve Bannon had also opposed Scaramucci’s appointment.

But the New York financier had the support of Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and his son-in-law and top adviser Jared Kushner.

Scaramucci will replace Mike Dubke, who resigned in May. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, principal deputy press secretary and daughter of Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, fills Spicer’s spot.

Now the question is how long Priebus will stick around.
