Lobby firms find a place in the Trump administration

After the election, the Trump camp pledged that applicants for high posts in the administration would have to provide proof that they were not registered lobbyists.

That’s not to say that they hadn’t been in the past, or weren’t still working for lobby firms. The blue-green boxes around the periphery of the interactive Muckety map above are lobby shops. The people in the map hold positions in the Trump administration or are awaiting confirmation. (The map is so crowded, we suggest you view the larger version.)

Some lobbied until recently.

Deputy White House counsel Makan Delrahim, a former shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt, was a lobbyist for Access Industries in the fourth quarter of 2016. Andrew Olmem, special assistant to the president, was an active lobbyist in the first quarter of 2017, as was White House energy adviser Michael Catanzaro.

Former Sen. Dan Coats, Trump’s director of national intelligence, was registered until 2010. His clients while at King & Spalding included Google and Cooper Industries.

As the map indicates, Kirkland & Ellis has sent many folks Trump’s way. The law firm has lobbied for clients such as the futures industry and Teva Pharmaceuticals, but has no current federal lobby registrations.
