During an appearance Tuesday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, FBI Director James Comey was asked if the agency was investigating possible connections between the Trump campaign and Russia.
“I would never comment on investigations, whether we have one or not, in an open forum like this,” Comey answered. “So I really can’t answer one way or another.”
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), who posed the question, then asked whether the FBI would release an unclassified report on the issue before Jan. 20.
“Sir, I will answer any question you ask, but the answer will likely be the same as I just gave you. I can’t talk about it,” Comey said.
Wyden’s follow-up was that if a report is not released before Donald Trump’s inauguration, “I’m not sure it’s going to happen. That’s why I am troubled.”
