Fast-food exec tapped as secretary of labor

Andrew F. Puzder, chief executive of CKE Restaurants, is Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Labor.

Puzder, whose company owns Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. restaurants, is an opponent of Obamacare and increases in the minimum wage.

He has suggested replacing restaurant workers with robots, saying: “They’re always polite, they always upsell, they never take a vacation, they never show up late, there’s never a slip-and-fall, or an age, sex, or race discrimination case.”

The New York Times reports that Puzder “will arguably have less experience in government than any labor secretary since the early 1980s, when President Ronald Reagan appointed a longtime construction executive named Raymond Donovan to head the department.”
