Bloomberg, eTrade and the other online financial news and trading sites are going to need a new sort of chart tracking both stock prices and Donald Trump’s tweets.
The president-elect tweeted this on Tuesday, before the U.S. markets opened:
Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 6, 2016
And here’s the mid-morning stock chart for Boeing (BA):
Did Trump’s 137-character proclamation have an impact?
Business execs, stockholders and retirees should get used to it. The Trump tweet effect is likely to become a closely followed metric.
In the meantime, as the New York Times points out, Trump may prefer to travel on “his own, well-appointed 757.”
