The father of the billionaires Charles and David Koch helped build an oil refinery in Nazi Germany, according to a book coming out this month.
“Dark Money,” by Jane Mayer, details a deal by the late Fred C. Koch to construct the third-largest oil refinery in the Third Reich. The episode is outlined in a story by the New York Times.
Mayer, a writer with the New Yorker, has been critical of the Koch brothers in the past, and a comment by Koch spokesman Ken Spain reflected that.
“If the content of the book is reflective of Ms. Mayer’s previous reporting of the Koch family, Koch Industries or Charles’s and David’s political involvement, then we expect to have deep disagreements and strong objections to her interpretation of the facts and their sourcing,” Spain told the Times.
The Koch brothers, libertarians who have contributed millions to Republican and conservative causes, have vowed to spend nearly $1 billion on the 2016 campaign.
