After 34 years on Capitol Hill, Republican Olympia Snowe of Maine has found a new niche in business.

Snowe, who served as both a member of the House and Senate before leaving government in 2013, now sits on the board of two of the country’s largest corporations.

She joined T. Rowe Price Group in 2013, and Aetna this year. Compensation, including stock, for her work with T. Rowe Price last year totaled $363,506. If her pay with Aetna falls in line with 2013 compensation for directors, she’ll make an additional $260,000 or more with the health insurer this year.

Altogether, that means more than $537,000 annually - three times the annual salary for senators.

Snowe is married to John R. McKernan Jr., former governor of Maine and a former congressman. McKernan is the former chairman and CEO of Education Management Corporation, which runs for-profit colleges. He’s now president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
