Years ago, when Quark Inc. co-founder Tim Gill started to give away a part of his fortune, he knew of no other gay or lesbian philanthropists.
Since then, Politico reports, Gill has given more than $300 million to LGBT issues.
Gill has been active on many fronts, helping candidates through Gill Action, funding advocacy groups through the Gill Foundation and founding Outgiving, a conference of political donors.
The New York Times reports that Gill plans to spend $25 million to broaden gay rights in conservative states.
“We can’t allow two distinct gay Americas to exist,” Gill told the Times. “Everybody should have the same rights and protections regardless of where they were born and where they live.”
