Long before Netflix, Movies on Demand, or even J.R. Ewing, there was a rare TV event eagerly awaited by children of the ’50s.

It was “Peter Pan,” starring Mary Martin, who would later be known as the mother of J.R. (Larry Hagman). Martin, who played Peter in the 1954 Broadway production telecast in the 1950s and 1960s, was magical.

The story by J.M. Barrie never grows old, as evidenced by the interactive Muckety map above.

It all began with Barrie’s 1904 play, followed by a 1911 novel. Disney released its animated version in 1953.

In “Pan,” the latest interpretation, Rooney Mara of “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” has signed on to be Tiger Lily. Hugh Jackman will play Blackbeard.

Dustin Hoffman has the distinction of appearing in two movies inspired by Barrie. Hoffman played Captain Hook in the 1991 movie, “Hook,” and theater producer Charles Frohman in the 2004 biopic, “Finding Neverland.”
