The close ties between the Obama administration and the Center for American Progress are no secret.
Most recently, they were demonstrated by CAP’s founder, John Podesta, becoming a White House counselor.
The relationship between the liberal think tank and the president has been fortified regularly over two terms, with CAP fellows and directors moving to government jobs and vice versa.
Obama’s chief of staff, Denis McDonough, is a former senior fellow of CAP. Gene Sperling, director of the National Economic Council, was also a senior fellow.
Jennifer Palmieri, Obama’s communications director, is a former president of CAP’s action fund.
