HSBC Holdings, under continuing scrutiny for its failures to block money launderers, has increased its government connections in recent years.

The most recent example is Kathleen Casey, who became a director on March 1. Casey was a commissioner of the Securities & Exchange Commission from 2006 to 2011.

James B. Comey, who served as a deputy attorney general before becoming an HSBC director, left the board last September to head the FBI.

Jonathan Evans, former director general of the UK Security Service, better known as MI5, joined the board last August.

Stuart A. Levey, former under secretary of the U.S. Treasury, became HSBC’s chief legal officer in 2012.
