ThinkProgress reports that Chick-Fil-A last year slashed its funding of anti-LGBT groups.
The company and its owners, the Cathy family, had previously contributed generously to organizations opposing same-sex marriage.
Such donations were absent from the foundations’ most recent tax filings, for 2012.
The privately held fast-food chain attracted national opposition in 2012 after its president, Dan Cathy, spoke in support of “the biblical definition of the family.”
The resulting hubbub, from critics and supporters, no doubt had an impact on the family’s giving patterns. (The company issued a statement saying, “Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”)
But we have to wonder if they simply went underground, following the example of the Koch brothers and other anonymous givers.
