BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has agreed to halt its analyst surveys, after an investigation into whether the program gave it unfair trading advantages.

New York Atty. Gen. Eric Schneiderman called the agreement “a major step forward in restoring fairness in our financial markets and ensuring a level playing field for all investors.”

Yet BlackRock enjoys insider status in so many ways. One, shown in the interactive Muckety map above, is through personal connections.

BlackRock directors sit on seven other Fortune 500 boards.

Two directors - James Rohr and Murry Gerber - sit on two other top boards. Rohr is chairman of PNC Financial Services Group and a director of Allegheny Technologies. He’s also a big player in the academic world, serving as vice chairman of Carnegie Mellon University and a trustee of the University of Notre Dame.

Gerber, former chairman and CEO of EQT Corporation, is a director of both US Steel and Halliburton Co.
