No happily-ever-aftering in Murdochland

Murdochland

Rupert Murdoch is no Richard Harris.

Wendi Deng, however attractive, can’t hold a candle to Vanessa Redgrave. Comparing former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair to Franco Nero should be a capital offense.

And no one, least of all those who have worked for, been covered by or phone-tapped by News Corp. or its subsidiaries, would describe Murdoch’s domain as Camelot.

Still.

British coverage of the Murdoch-Deng divorce and rumors of an affair with Blair is immensely entertaining even without music.

The Daily Mail reports that Deng and Blair had “multiple encounters” of which Murdoch was unaware. The newspaper hastens to add: “There is no suggestion by this newspaper of any impropriety by Mr Blair or Ms Deng. And Mr Blair’s friends have repeatedly denied he had an affair with Ms Deng.”

Murdoch and Deng reached a divorce agreement last week.

Murdoch’s support helped Blair win three elections as prime minister. Blair is godfather to one of Murdoch’s daughters.

Hugh Jackman, who would make a much better Lancelot than Blair, is godfather to two Murdoch daughters.

Hmmm.
