Apple may soon have another friend in Washington

Catherine Ann Novelli, Apple’s vice president of worldwide government affairs, awaits Senate confirmation of President Obama’s nomination of her to be under secretary of State.

Although she’s not a registered lobbyist in Washington, Novelli’s job title makes clear that her role is to influence officials on behalf of the world’s 19th-largest company.

As our interactive Muckety map shows, the revolving door between Apple and the U.S. government is long-standing.

The most prominent example is former Vice President Al Gore, who is a director of the company. Another current director, Walt Disney CEO Robert Iger, is a member of the President’s Export Council.

Former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson became an Apple VP earlier this year.

Two other people in our map are in-house lobbyists for Apple: Walt Kuhn, former counsel to Sen. Lindsey Graham, and Joseph Fortson, former counsel to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

To see relations, roll your mouse over connecting lines. (Solid lines indicate current connections; dotted lines are former.)
