Hillaryland revisited

By Laurie Bennett

They were dubbed “Hillaryland,” a group of close aides to Hillary Rodham Clinton at the White House, in the 2008 presidential campaign and, for some, at the State Department.

Where are they now, and how nimble might they be should Clinton decide to run again in 2016?

Many are well-positioned to move back into campaign mode. Here’s an overview:

Huma Abedin The future of this longtime relationship is being sorely tested by the antics of Abedin’s husband, New York mayoral candidate and former congressman Anthony Weiner. The Clintons would no doubt like to forget that the former president officiated at the Abedin-Weiner nuptials in 2010. Abedin was senior adviser to Hillary Clinton at State and a consultant at the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation.
Lissa Muscatine A former Washington Post reporter who became Hillary Clinton’s communications director and later chief speechwriter at State, Muscatine is now co-owner of Washington’s Politics and Prose book store.
Tamera Luzzatto Clinton’s former chief of staff, Luzzatto is senior vice president of government relations at Pew Charitable Trusts.
Minyon Moore Moore was Bill Clinton’s political director before working as CEO of the DNC and senior adviser to the 2008 presidential campaign. She’s now a principal of Dewey Square Group, a Washington public affairs firm.
Maggie Williams After managing the 2008 campaign and serving as Clinton’s chief of staff, Williams is now a partner in Griffin Williams, a management-consulting firm.
Neera Tanden Tanden was policy director in the 2008 campaign. She now heads the Center for American Progress, the liberal think tank with close ties to the White House.
Evelyn Lieberman After working as deputy chief of staff in the Clinton administration, Lieberman was COO of the 2008 presidential campaign. She’s now communications director at the Smithsonian Institution.
Patti Solis Doyle After being fired as Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager in 2008, Solis Doyle joined the Obama campaign. She informed Clinton of the new job by email. Solis Doyle is now president and co-founder of the Vendor Assistance Program in Chicago.
Capricia Marshall Former social secretary in the Clinton administration, senior adviser to the 2008 campaign and special assistant to Hillary Clinton, Marshall left her post as chief of protocol earlier this month.
Melanne Verveer Verveer was chief of staff to the first lady. She later became ambassador-at-large for global women’s issues. She now heads the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, where Clinton is the founding chair.
Cheryl Mills A member of the Clinton inner circle who would likely have a major role in a 2016 bid. She was defense counsel during Bill Clinton’s impeachment, general counsel in the 2008 presidential campaign and Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff at State. Mills is now a director of the Clinton Foundation.
