Business and politics don’t always mix

Political connections can be a pain in the butt, says an executive who worked with allies of former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Charles Wang, president of GreenTech Automotive, told the New York Times that the ties sometimes hurt rather than helped business negotiations.

Terry McAuliffe, a longtime fundraiser for the Clintons, was chairman of GreenTech until leaving to launch his current campaign for governor of Virginia.

Tony Rodham, Clinton’s brother, oversaw investor recruitment for the company.

Wang said McAuliffe riled an official of Homeland Security by going over his head, contacting Secretary Janet Napolitano.

Rodham’s involvement irked the Chinese, who “resent the Clintons for a series of perceived diplomatic offenses.”

“I learned a lot of things,” Wang told the Times. “Politicians or people with political backgrounds are dangerous to business.”
