The price of an ambassadorship: $500,000 plus

In the last two months, Barack Obama has nominated 11 campaign fundraisers for diplomatic posts.

The tradition of rewarding bundlers with ambassadorships didn’t begin with this White House, but the Obama administration has embraced it.

The 11 nominees include Rufus Gifford, who was not technically a bundler but served as national finance director for the 2012 campaign.

Each of the bundler nominees was reported by the Obama campaign as having raised $500,000 plus.

Altogether, they raised at least $5 million for Obama. (The number is likely higher. The campaign reported amounts by tier, with $500,000+ being the top tier.)
