Muckety this! Harry Potter to Kevin Bacon and the Olsen twins

We don’t have to resort to six degrees of separation to connect Harry Potter and Kevin Bacon. We can do it in four.

No, Bacon never appeared in a Harry Potter movie. Neither did his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick.

However, Sedgwick does appear with Daniel Radcliffe in this year’s “Kill Your Darlings,” a film whose characters include Beat Generation writers Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac.

Radcliffe plays Ginsberg. Jack Huston, grandson of legendary filmmaker John Huston, is Kerouac.

The movie enables us to draw several fun maps showing Harry’s connections to the real world. Here’s one linking him to the Olsen twins:

Ginsberg was represented by literary agent Andrew Wylie, who also represented writers Saul Bellow and Susan Sontag.

Bellow and Sontag made cameo appearances in the 1983 movie “Zelig,” by Woody Allen.

So now we’ve connected Harry Potter and Woody Allen:

The above map isn’t bad, but we can do better.

Zelig, the main character of the eponymous film, was a shape shifter, a species that also appears in the Harry Potter books.

So here’s a map linking one shape shifter to another. Who knows if they’re not the same character?
