Antitrust probe ends in Google’s favor

The Federal Trade Commission announced Thursday that it had found no antitrust violations by Google.

However, the search giant has agreed to change some business practices to address FTC concerns that the way Google currently does business could “stifle competition in the markets for popular devices such as smart phones, tablets and gaming consoles.”

Google has agreed to allow competitors fair access to critical patents and to give online publishers more flexibility in using both Google Adwords and rival ad platforms. It also pledged to avoid grabbing content from vertical websites.

Federal regulators declined to take action on complaints that Google skewed its web results and entered into anticompetitive exclusive agreements for Google Search.
