While attention is often focused on former members of Congress who now work as Washington lobbyists, less is paid to those who head trade groups.

Our map below shows ex-members of the House and Senate currently holding leadership posts.

Although trade groups by definition are lobbying organizations, the chairs and chief executives are not necessarily registered lobbyists.

Of the 13 former members shown in the map, seven are currently registered:

Dirk Kempthorne - American Council of Life Insurers
Glenn L. English - National Rural Electric Cooperative Association
Gordon H. Smith - National Association of Broadcasters
Richard H. Baker - Managed Funds Association
Stephen Michael Largent - CTIA
Steve Bartlett - Financial Services Roundtable
Thomas H. Allen - Association of American Publishers

Six are not registered to lobby:

Calvin M. Dooley - American Chemistry Council
Christopher J. Dodd - Motion Picture Association of America
David K. McCurdy - American Gas Association
James A. Nussle - Growth Energy
James C. Greenwood - Biotechnology Industry Organization
Tom Feeney - Associated Industries of Florida
