Dems answer the ’super PAC contract killers’

By Laurie Bennett

May 7, 2012 at 12:01pm

Karl Rove and the Koch brothers are “contract killers out there in super PAC land,” David Axelrod, Barack Obama’s political director, told reporters Monday.

Maggie Haberman of Politico writes that Axelrod used the description as he announced plans by the Obama campaign to spend $25 million this month.

The massive advertising expenditure is designed to answer attack ads funded by super PACs such Rove’s American Crossroads and Americans for Prosperity, which has received Koch funding.

American Crossroads reported last month that it spent less than $1 million in the first quarter of 2011, but had more than $24 million in the bank.

Americans for Prosperity recently announced a $6.1 million campaign criticizing Obama’s energy policies.
