Google has named former U.S. Rep. Susan Molinari to head its Washington office, Politico reports.
She will start in March as Google’s vice president of public policy and government relations for the Americas, replacing Alan Davidson, who opened the company’s D.C. office.
A Republican, Molinari is one of the most connected people in American politics. She served in Congress from 1990 to 1997, after serving as a member of the New York City Council.
After her stint in Congress, she co-hosted “CBS News Saturday Morning.” More recently, she has headed her own consulting firm, Susan Molinari Strategies.
Molinari is married to Bill Paxon and is the daughter of former Guy V. Molinari, both of whom also served in Congress.
Paxon is a lobbyist with Akin, Gump, one of the outside lobby firms employed by Google. He is not registered as having represented the company.
Molinari’s father is a prominent endorser of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.
Molinari has been a registered lobbyist since 2004, having worked in the past for Bracewell and Giuliani, the Washington Group and Integrated Solutions Group. Last year, she lobbied for the Century Council, a nonprofit group that works to reduce underage drinking and drunk driving.
Clients in past years have included A.M. Best Company, Air Liquide USA and the FBI Agents Association.
