To members of the extended Rooney Mara family, it must seem too much to hope for, that the young star could win an Oscar Sunday.
Was the Giants’ Super Bowl win a sign of things to come, or did it use up all the 2012 luck of the Irish?
Mara, whose name embraces both branches of the famous family, is up for best leading actress for her role in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
She’s the daughter of Chris Mara, VP of the New York Giants, victors earlier this month in Super Bowl XLVI.
Her mother is Kathleen Mara, a member of the Rooney family, owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Her great-uncle, Daniel Rooney, former chairman of the Steelers, is U.S. ambassador to Ireland.
And her older sister, Kate Mara, is also a well-known actress, with roles in “Brokeback Mountain,” “We Are Marshall” and “127 Hours.”
