Just another connection between art and money

How important is the Metropolitan Museum of Art to New York?

Its president, Emily K. Rafferty, holds a seat on the New York Federal Reserve.

She also chairs NYC & Company, Inc., the city’s tourism and marketing organization, and serves as a director of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center.

Rafferty has gravitated to power centers since early in her career, when she was an assistant to David Rockefeller Jr.

She has worked at the Met since 1976, climbing the ranks through fundraising and membership development.

She was reappointed to the New York Fed last week.

In its announcement of board changes, the bank also addressed an old slight to upstate New York in naming Alphonso O’Neil-White, president and CEO of HealthNow New York, to its board. O’Neil-White previously served as as director of the Fed’s Buffalo branch, which was closed in 2008.

He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Loews CEO James S. Tisch.
