A year after Colbert spot, Goldman partner has left firm

By Laurie Bennett

December 14, 2011 at 9:16am

Bloomberg published a list Wednesday of Goldman Sachs partners who left or are leaving in 2011.

One name jumped out at us: Buckley T. Ratchford.

If the name doesn’t ring a bell, let us jog your memory. Last December, a writer on “Colbert Report” found Ratchford’s credit card on a street in Tribeca.

Colbert decided to hold the card hostage. He threatened to reveal the card number, one digit at a time, until its owner, Buckley T. Ratchford, appeared on the show to discuss Wall Street bonuses.

But then the company’s Office of Global Security, which the comedian described as a euphemism for “assassination squad,” demanded its return.

Even Colbert is afraid of Goldman Sachs lawyers, so he agreed to return it.

No word on precisely why Ratchford has left the firm.
