Ellen Barkin sticks close to the Levinson family

In 1982, Ellen Barkin made her debut in “Diner,” Barry Levinson’s first film.

Almost three decades later, she’s starring in “Another Happy Day,” the first film directed by Levinson’s son, Sam.

The younger Levinson wrote the dark comedy four years ago, when he was just 22.

Barkin’s characters have aged, not always gracefully, from the unhappy young wife in “Diner” to a domineering mother in the new movie, which opens next month.

In real life Barkin, 57, is still an unconventionial stunner.

Sam Levinson evidently thinks so, too. The two, who met when they worked on “Operation:Endgame” three and a half years ago, have been dating.

Page Six reported in June that they were living together, a topic she recently declined to discuss with New York magazine.

Barkin has had two very public marriages - to actor Gabriel Byrne, with whom she’s friendly, and to billionaire Ronald Perelman, with whom she’s not.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Barkin expressed gratitude to both Levinsons. “This father and son have given me two of the most compelling roles I’ve ever had,” she said.
