Connections of the News Corp. board grow ever more entangled.
Viet Dinh, a supposedly independent director, has been named to oversee the company’s internal investigation of the phone hacking scandals.
Dinh, a former assistant attorney general who clerked for Sandra Day O’Connor, is godfather to a grandchild of News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch.
He is also a close friend of Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney who is heading this country’s investigation of News Corp.
As Time notes, Dinh and Bharara met during their freshman year at Harvard.
They’ve stayed close over the years, and Bharara was best man at Dinh’s wedding.
There’s been no word on whether either man considered recusing himself for conflict of interest.
