In a Monday press conference, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner admitted sending a photo to a Seattle woman and lying about it. He said he would not resign.

“I regret not being honest about this,” he said. “This was a mistake and I’m very sorry for it.”

Wiping away tears, Weiner said he had sent photos over the Internet to several women, most of whom he had met on Facebook. He said he had never met any of them personally and had never had sexual relations outside his marriage.

“This was a very dumb thing to do,” he said, apologizing repeatedly.

Weiner said he and his wife had no intentions of splitting.

Although his wife knew about some of his online relationships since before their marriage, she did not know he had misled her or the public about recent exchanges, he said.

“She was very unhappy and very disappointed, and she told me as much,” he said.

His wife, Huma Abedin, is a senior adviser to the secretary of state and former aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton.

She did not appear with Weiner at the press conference.
