Koch Industries is looking to expand its sphere of influence, registering as a lobby client in Canada.

The company, headed by conservative billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, has hired a Canadian lobby shop, Global Public Affairs, to represent its interests in Alberta.

David Wilkins, U.S. ambassador to Canada during the George W. Bush administration, is working as a special adviser to the firm. Wilkins is a lobbyist with U.S. law firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, which has a collaborative relationship with Global Public Affairs.

Wilkins is also a registered lobbyist for the provincial governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta and the government agency Alberta Energy. Canada-based Nexen, an energy company, is also a Wilkins client.

Koch Industries is a major player in the Canadian crude oil industry. Four subsidiaries, including Flint Hills Resources, Koch Exploration Canada and Georgia-Pacific, operate in Alberta.
