Beverly Hills High: Hollywood’s alma mater

By Laurie Bennett

February 27, 2011 at 8:32am

In honor of Oscar Sunday, we’ve mapped the Hollywood network that orbits Beverly Hills High School.

The school has a celebrity graduate list that could fill the first two rows of Kodak Theater.

Among its former students: Angelina Jolie, David Schwimmer, Carrie Fisher, Julie Kavner and Betty White. (A 1936 yearbook, showing White’s picture, is currently on sale at eBay, priced at $199.)

Given the location, famous BHHS alumni tend to be offspring of other Hollywood celebs.

Rob Reiner is the son of Carl and Estelle “I’ll have what she’s having” Reiner. Marlo Thomas is the daughter of TV star Danny Thomas. Carrie Fisher is the daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds (a couple she describes as the forerunner of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston).

The school itself is a star, featured in the famous swimming-pool scene in Frank Capra’s “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

School officials turned down a request to film “Beverly Hills 90210″ here. Scenes were shot instead at Torrance High School.

Beverly Hills High School is not a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, however, Hollywood High School is.

Tori Spelling did not attend Beverly Hills High School. She attended the Westlake School for Girls in Holmby Hills

Our understanding is that Spelling attended BHHS, but did not graduate from there.
