It’s been said before, but it bears repeating, given the current success of Ryan Gosling, who stars in two new releases - All Good Things and Blue Valentine.
Long before American Idol, the Mickey Mouse Club was a star maker.
Among Gosling’s co-stars on The New Mickey Mouse Club, a revival of the 1950s series, were Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
Stars of the show’s earlier version included Annette Funicello, who later became a beach-movie star, and Paul Petersen, who starred on The Donna Reed Show.
Gosling tells The Daily Beast that his appearance on the show was almost accidental. At age 11, he accompanied some friends to an audition and landed a spot.
Even at that age, however, he knew mouseketeerdom wasn’t his destiny. “I didn’t want those things,” he told The Daily Beast. “I wanted something else, and it kind of inspired me to figure out what that was.”
