Who says investigative journalism is dead?

And who says Rolling Stone is a faded chronicler of the rock-and-roll age?

The magazine has pulled out two huge stories in recent weeks.

First came the piece on the Obama administration’s culpability in the BP oil spill.

Now the news-making profile of Gen. Stanley McChrystal.

We wonder about their business model, though. By keeping the McChrystal story off the web site, will the magazine drive print sales?

In the meantime, other news outlets (including Muckety) are quoting liberally from the piece as events continue to unfold.

Update: Rolling Stone posted the story on its web site later in the day.
