Seven months after her father George W. Bush left office, Jenna Bush Hager signed with NBC to be a correspondent on the Today show.

Hager, 27, who will continue to work as a middle-school reading coordinator in Baltimore, where she lives with her husband Henry Hager, will report on education issues about once a month, the executive producer of the program told the Associate Press.

“I think she can handle it,” said Jim Bell. “I think she knows something about pressure and being under some scrutiny. When she came here for a handful of appearances, she knocked it out of the park.”

Bell said that Hager won’t report on politics.

And Hager said that she wouldn’t look back on her experience as the daughter of a president.

“I don’t think it’s that interesting,” she said. “I’m pretty normal.”

In addition to being the topic of numerous stories in the media, Hager has also reported and written herself.

With her mother, Laura Bush, she wrote the children’s book Read All About It!

And she’s the author of Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope, which is drawn from her experience as an intern with UNICEF in Panama.

The book tells the story of a young single mother in Panama who has AIDS.

Continuing her connection with UNICEF, a United Nations organization that helps children worldwide, Hager now serves as the chair and the young leadership ambassador of UNICEF’s Next Generation steering committee.

Next Generation’s goal is to engage younger people in the effort to help the world’s children.

Hager’s twin sister, Barbara P. Bush, also serves on the steering committee. She’s also the president of The Global Health Corps, an organization that connects young leaders with health organizations.

A graduate of the University of Texas, Jenna Hager taught in a charter school in Washington, D.C., before her marriage in May 2008 to Henry Hager, the son of John H. Hager, a former lieutenant governor of Virginia.

A former aide to Karl Rove, the longtime adviser to George W. Bush, Henry Hager works for Constellation Energy in Baltimore.

Jenna and Henry Hager purchased a Baltimore home last year for $440,000.

I saw the Today Show when Jenna was introduced with lead ins by Barbara, Laura, and Grandmother Barbara. Grandmother mentioned her name that the girls call her, I cannot remember that name and it is one of those things that “bugs” you because you can’t recall. Can you help me out? Thank you, K.B.
