Maybe one day soon, the voice of your car’s GPS system will sound like a confused bum gargling marbles.
Singer-songwriter and suspected vagrant Bob Dylan recently said he’s in talks with “a couple of car companies” to be the disembodied voice of their satellite navigation systems.
Dylan made the uncharacteristic disclosure during a broadcast of his Sirius XM show, Theme Time Radio Hour, adding:
“I think it would be good if you are looking for directions and hear my voice saying something like: ‘Left at the next street. No a right. You know what? Just go straight.’ I probably shouldn’t do it because whichever way I go I always end up at one place: Lonely Avenue.”

Whether Dylan himself knew where he was during a recent encounter with a New Jersey cop isn’t entirely clear, but she admitted having no idea who he was when she picked him up as a possible vagrant.
Touring this summer behind his latest album, Together Through Life, Dylan was detained July 23 after Long Branch police got reports of an “eccentric-looking old man” wandering one neighborhood in a heavy rain, according to ABC News.
When Officer Kristie Buble, 24, responded, she found him outside a home with a For Sale sign in the yard. She later told it this way:
I asked him what his name was and he said, ‘Bob Dylan.’ Now, I’ve seen pictures of Bob Dylan from a long time ago and he didn’t look like Bob Dylan to me at all. He was wearing black sweatpants tucked into black rain boots, and two raincoats with the hood pulled down over his head.
We see a lot of people on our beat, and I wasn’t sure if he came from one of our hospitals or something.
When Dylan said he had no ID, she asked where he was staying. The polite suspect told her about a big oceanside hotel where his tour buses were parked. Still suspicious, she found the hotel, police eventually confirmed that one of the most famous men in the world was who he said he was, and Buble turned him loose, saying, “Um, have a nice day.”
