Warrior Democrat and TV star Alec Baldwin has backed off a statement published last week in Playboy magazine that he might move to Connecticut to run against Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democrat turned independent, who responded by going all Dirty Harry on the actor.
Baldwin told Playboy that he’d had it with Lieberman’s moderate politics and, according to the Los Angeles Times, “I’d love to run against Joe Lieberman. I have no use for him.”
Bring it, Lieberman said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union”:

“You know, I mean, I must say that I respect Alec Baldwin as an actor and as a comedian, and if he wants to run, that’s his right.” Then, unable to resist the Hollywood thing, Lieberman added, “Make my day.”
But today, the Times reported, Baldwin posted a skinback on his blog:
“No, ” he wrote, “I am not moving to Connecticut to run against Joe Lieberman. As much as I think Lieberman is an enormous letdown to the party that gave him their nomination for Vice President, I am sure that Democratic Party leaders in that state will take care of themselves.”
Although Lieberman abandoned his party in 2006 to operate politically as an independent, he still caucuses with Senate Democrats. Baldwin, who once called Vice President Dick Cheney a “terrorist,” currently stars in the NBC hit “30 Rock,” gleefully portraying a venal Republican network executive.
