While the Oscars announced Sunday brought new names to the Academy Awards roster, all but one of the major winners had been nominated or won in previous years.
Danny Boyle, best director of Slumdog Millionaire, which also won for best film, picked up an Oscar in his first nomination.

Kate Winslet
Best actor Sean Penn won in 2003 for Mystic River, and was a nominee for I Am Sam in 2001. He was also nominated in 1999 for Sweet and Lowdown and in 1995 for Dead Man Walking.
It was the first Oscar win for best actress Kate Winslet, after being previously nominated five times for Little Children (2006), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Iris (2002), Titanic (1997) and Sense and Sensibility (1995).
Heath Ledger, who won posthumously for best supporting actor, in The Dark Knight, was nominated in 2005 for Brokeback Mountain. Penelope Cruz, who won best supporting actress for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, was a 2006 nominee for Volver.
