I am very interesting in the affinal ties between Walter de Noel and his two sons in law : Andres Predrahita and Matthew Crawford Brown. Are there others ties like this in the network aroud Bernard Madoff.
The comparison is possible with the “affinal set” as said anthropologist Emry Peters working on Lebanon Families(1976) I have describe in the Muslim West Afric during the nineteenth century. This relationship or “weak ties” was paradoxically important in the past for the transmission of muslim charisma, blessing, imamship… (Schmitz 2000) and now to feed confidence among the social networks of the migrants laborers who sent remittances to their country.
Best wishes for 2009
Jean Schmitz
