A number of Washington DC residents are renting out their digs for astronomical prices during Barack Obama’s inauguration.
But New York Philharmonic music director Lorin Maazel and his wife, Dietlinde Turban-Maazel, have put together the most extravagant package of them all. They’re opening their Virginia estate for $50,000 a night - all to benefit a cause, of course.
For that princely sum, you and 50 of your best buds can enjoy the Castleton Retreat which is about 90 minutes from Washington D.C. Chauffered transportation is part of a package that includes a concert at the Maazel’s private theatre featuring The Amstel Quartet from The Netherlands on Sunday, Jan. 18.
The Rappahannock County estate also includes a spa facility with a large heated swimming pool, a Turkish steam room, Finnish sauna, a bowling alley and a petting zoo. Guests can stay in different cottages and houses.
“Many of our friends and family members often comment on the sacred beauty of our farm,” Maazel said.
“Now we want others to experience what we love so much.”
The money will be donated to the Maazels’ Chateauville Foundation, which helps train young performance artists.
The French-born violinist and composer likes to tell how he was taking violin lessons at age 5. He was 8 when he conducted his first performance; by the time he’d turned 12, he was touring America with major orchestras.
