Sarah’s thankful; the turkey not so much

In anticipation of Thanksgiving, Sarah Palin pardoned a turkey in Wasilla, AK.

Though one turkey was saved from its fate as a holiday meal, Palin proceeded to give a local TV interview while in the background an unlucky bird was slaughtered on camera.

In the interview with local station KTUU-TV, Palin ironically refers to the campaign process as “brutal” and her experience at the Triple D Farm & Hatchery slaughterhouse as “neat” and part of the “levity in this job.”

Turkey pardoning began as a White House custom in 1947 and is also traditionally carried out by governors in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

Palin reportedly was told by the videographer that the birds were being slaughtered behind her, but allowed the interview to continue.

The governor told the reporter, “Certainly we’ll probably invite criticism for even doing this too, but this is fun.”

Palin goes on to reveal her own Thanksgiving plans: “I’ll be in charge of the turkey…I’m where I need to be today to prepare for that.”
