How hot is Tina Fey?
So hot that even without a written proposal, her book agent Richard Abate fielded offers of a $5 million-plus advance for a nonfiction humor book.
Now the Associated Press reports that Abate has struck a deal for an undisclosed sum with Little, Brown Book Group - even though the 38-year-old comic has been too busy to meet with editors between appearances on Saturday Night Live to play GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, and writing and acting in her own comedy series, 30 Rock.
Fey was already in career hyperdrive before fate handed her the role of a lifetime. Since Sarah Palin burst on the national political stage, Fey has capitalized on her uncanny resemblance, appearing as the Alaska governor in a third SNL kit last Saturday - this time, reprising the vice-presidential debate.
Winking and giving answers not always directly related to the questions, Fey’s Palin said that if elected, her decisions would be guided by considering “what would a maverick do?” When asked her position on gay marriage, she deadpanned, “I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers.”
Today, Palin engaged in some self-deprecating humor to take the sting out of Fey’s caricatures, telling voters in Clearwater, Fla., that she had intentionally flubbed interviews with Katie Couric because she was “just trying to keep Tina Fey in business.”
But even before Palin was nominated, Fey, a former head writer for SNL, was riding a wave of popularity. Last month, 30 Rock, the television comedy series which she produces and writes, took home an Emmy for outstanding comedy series, as well as a writing award for Fey and leading actor awards for Fey and co-star Alec Baldwin.
Earlier this year, she also starred in Baby Mama, which made millions at the box office despite getting mixed reviews.
