Phil Collins has edged out Paul McCartney for the title of the largest celebrity divorce settlement in Britain.

Collins has had plenty of practice with divorce.

Britain’s Telegraph estimates that he has spent approximately a third of his $280 million fortune on his three divorces. His latest payment to Orianne Cevey even surpassed Paul McCartney’s pay-out to Heather Mills, which totalled $45.3 million.

Collins and his third wife, Orianne Cevey, split in 2006. It was announced yesterday that Cevey will receive $46.76 million in cash from the Genesis frontman.

Collins and Cevey were married for six years and have two children, Nicholas and Matthew, aged 8 and 4.

Collins has three other children from previous marriages. His first marriage to Andrea Bertorelli ended in 1979.

In 1994, Collins notoriously ended his relationship with his second wife, Jill Tavelman, via fax machine. Tavelman received a $34 million settlement.

In addition to his success with Genesis and as a solo artist, Collins makes his money through his personal management company, Phil Collins Ltd.

Since his break-up from Cevey, Collins has reportedly been dating CBS co-anchor Dana Tyler, who met the musician when she interviewed him in May 2006.
