American Idol may be losing an executive producer, but Nigel Lythgoe, the producer behind Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, has a new show in the works.
Lythgoe has been an executive producer with American Idol since its first season. He collaborated with Simon Fuller on the show after helping to launch on Pop Idol, American Idol’s precursor, in Britain.
Although he doesn’t judge the show, Lythgoe is occasionally shown consulting with Idol’s host Ryan Seacrest and the judges.
Lythgoe will continue his role with So You Think You Can Dance, while directing his energy in a new collaborative project with Fuller, although the new show is still in the negotiation phase. The concept of the new show has yet to be revealed.
Lythgoe will also be working on producing South African, Canadian, and Austrailian versions of So You Think You Can Dance.
Fuller, along with Ken Warwick and Cecile Frot-Coutaz, will continue to produce American Idol as it starts its eighth season next year.
