Help Wanted: Summer intern position at Rolling Stone.
Responsibilities: running errands, filing, taking messages, fetching coffee.
Qualifications: Basic typing skills, an interest in the entertainment industry, good communication skills, and a parent who is a household name.
It certainly doesn’t hurt to have a star in the family, if you’re gunning for an internship with Rolling Stone.
Joining the staff as a summer intern this year is Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain.
Although the New York Post’s Page Six reported rumors that Cobain frequently called in sick and refrained from bringing anyone coffee, a representative for Rolling Stone countered, “She’s a great girl, and we’re thrilled to have her.”
Last summer, the magazine hired Evan Springsteen, whose rocker-father has a long-standing relationship with Rolling Stone, (Bruce Springsteen has appeared on 13 covers for the magazine).
Additional intern staffers included Steven Spielberg’s son Max and Emily Chase (daughter of Chevy).
It wasn’t a surprise that Gus Wenner also interned at the magazine. His father is editor, publisher and founder. Gus’s brother Theo Wenner interned before him.
The hiring of the young and famous seems to work for both the employer and the employee.
Rolling Stone gets a jump on networking with what could be the next generation of pop culture icons, while the new interns take their first steps into the entertainment business.
Or, could it be that Rolling Stone is just hiring the most qualified for the job?
