Quicker than you can say ‘political has-been,’ Ron Paul, the onetime GOP presidential candidate, has moved from “Manifesto” to “Memoir.”
The Texas congressman had inked a deal to write “The Revolution: A Memoir” - a sequel to “The Revolution: A Manifesto,” which was catapulted to the top of the New York Times bestseller list this year by supporters of his quixotic presidential campaign.
But unlike “Manifesto,” which sets out Paul’s libertarian ideals, the new book is a “memoir of his career in politics, revealing his encounters with the major political figures over the last thirty years, and those events that shaped him and made him the man and politician he is,” according to The Publisher’s Lunch via the Observer.
It may be premature to see the new book as Paul’s political swan song, though.
Contrary to the wishes of Republican strategists who wish he would go quietly into the night, Paul plans a one-day shadow rally during the Republican convention in September, which he will use to expound on his ideas about limited government. He has said he will not back the party’s presumptive nominee, Sen. John McCain, instead praising (but not so far endorsing ) the third-party candidacies of Bob Barr Jr., the Libertarian nominee, and of Florida pastor Charles Baldwin of the Constitution Party.
How much Paul is being paid for the new book by Grand Central Publishing was not disclosed, but industry insiders suggest it is a hefty sum.
