Costello will produce and host Spectacle: Elvis Costello with…, a variety show that will air later this year on CTV in Canada, Channel 4 in the UK, and on the Sundance Channel in the US.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee will be venturing into the business of a television show host, where he will interview musicians and discuss the creative process of making music. He is expected to duet with some of his guests and cover the work of other musicians throughout the series.
Elton John, who is also a producer of the show, will be one of the program’s first guests.
Additional segments will feature legendary figures Tony Bennett, Allen Toussaint, Lou Reed and even former president Bill Clinton.
Costello will also be joined by his band members Steve Nieve, Davey Faragher and Pete Thomas.
The series of 13 one-hour-long segments will combine interviews, thematic panel discussions and musical collaborations between Costello and his guests.
In a press release, Costello said the show will be “a wonderful opportunity to talk in complete thoughts about music, movies, art or even vaudeville, then frame it with unique and illustrative performances.”
Whether Bill Clinton will break out his saxophone for a duet with Costello has not been disclosed.
