The Times of London reports today that Madonna has lined up famed divorce lawyer, Fiona Shackleton, fueling rumors that she is splitting with her husband, Guy Ritchie.
Madonna has been married to the British film producer for eight years. They are parents to Rocco and Lourdes, who is Madonna’s daughter from her previous relationship. In May, 2008, Madonna finalized her adoption of David Banda, born in Malawi.
Shackleton, known for her high-profile divorce cases, has represented both Prince Charles and Paul McCartney.
She was able to hold Heather Mills to a settlement of approximately $47.6 million of McCartney’s $1.6 billion fortune, reportedly prompting Mills to dump water on Shackleton’s head outside of the courtroom.
The Times reports rumors that Madonna and Ritchie do not have a pre-nuptial agreement, which could prove very lucrative for Ritchie. Madonna signed a contract with record label, Live Nation, worth about $120 million in the next 10 years. Her net worth is estimated at $595 million.
It has been long speculated that Madonna’s relationship was on the rocks. Her husband did not attend the singer’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March, or the premiere of her documentary about Malawi at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. Madonna has been recently spotted without her wedding ring.
In March, Madonna’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, released a statement attempting to quell divorce rumors. In the release, she said: “I am delighted to confirm that Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ritchie remain happily married.” Rosenberg has yet to comment on today’s report in the Times.
